Last week was quite eventful around the Brewer flat. Wednesday night, we had one of our favorite Hungarian couples over for dinner. They wanted a traditional American meal, and next week they'll have us over for a traditional Hungarian meal. I can't wait to see what they make! As is the custom here, they greeted us with a bottle of wine and a beautiful bouquet of flowers! What a sweet gift!
Matt and I thought and thought about what would be a traditional American meal and this is what we came up with: chicken tenders (maybe that's just a southern thing), macaroni and cheese (Kraft extra cheesy, sent straight from America!), and salad, with homemade brownies (NOT from a box!) and ice cream. The meal was super simple, but classic. Now that I think about it, we should have made sweet tea for them to really add to the southern charm! I'm pretty sure they enjoyed it...everyone cleaned their plates!
Friday afternoon, Matt and I made a little trip to the hospital...
NOT because anything was wrong, just so we'd know where it is when Gideon decides to make his appearance. The hospital I'll be delivering at is about 30-45 minutes away, depending on traffic. It's actually tucked away in a tiny little village outside the city. If we hadn't had our GPS we'd never have found it! It's a private hospital, so it's kind of small, but everything inside is quite nice. Most of the workers speak English, and as far as I can tell, it's the same as any American hospital.
Saturday was another fun day; my baby shower!
A few of my friends here threw me a diaper shower & brunch! The girls worked so hard on the food, and boy, did it pay off! Everything was SO tasty!! They made quiche, fruit kabobs, cinnamon rolls, cheese rolls, cupcakes, muffins, and bruschetta! Talk about scrumptious! Here I am with the amazing spread...
Everyone digging in!
Me with two of my sweet Hungarian friends, Virginia and Timi...
Check out the loot! We are SO thankful for all of the diapers! I am sure the bath gels, lotions, wipes, and bottles will come in quite handy in the next few weeks as well! My amazing hostesses also had a little surprise for me...They contacted some of our friends and family from home that they knew would have loved to be at the shower and asked them to write a little message to me. They put all the sweet messages, along with words of wisdom and funny stories from the attendants, in a book (bottom right of the picture) for me. I loved reading all of the encouraging notes from loved ones back home! What a nice gift!
Me with the incredible hostesses: Allie, Shanna & Denise. Thanks again ladies! You're the best!
Sunday night, we had our 2nd official Church meeting at the Forum with 19 attendants! We kicked off the night with singing in Hebrew, followed by a teaching time on the first few verses of the first chapter of Hebrews, and wrapped it up with small group discussion. One of the Hungarians on the leadership team led the service, and he did a great job. We're so thankful for this new Church plant and can't wait to see how God continues to draw this city to Himself.
That's all for now, but we've got our 34 week Dr. appointment this week and a cookie swap this weekend, so I'm sure I'll be blogging again soon!
Have a great week!
How exciting! Thanks for posting!!! Praying blessing on yall!
