December Festivities!

December was such a fun month! With all of the Christmas activities, the kids enjoyed every moment! Taking Gideon and Charlotte to their first parade was something I'll never forget! They both had a blast, with Gid especially loving all of the marching bands that passed by! I've never seen him dance and play the air drums so much!
Because our house is on the market, we tried to keep the holiday decor to a minimum, putting up only a mini tree in each of the kid's rooms. They sure loved decorating the trees and having the lights on each night.
One of the traditions that we started this year was celebrating St. Nicholas Day! We were introduced to this tradition while living in Budapest, as most European countries celebrate it on December 6th. It's a fun way to explain who St. Nicholas was, how he was a strong believer and demonstrated that in his generosity to the poor, without all of the "Santa" talk becoming confusing. We also like it because it separates Santa from the birth of Christ, versus celebrating Santa on Christmas Eve & Day. Part of the tradition is putting a pair of shoes outside/just inside the door the night before. The next morning, the kids wake up to their shoes filled with chocolates (ever seen those chocolate gold coins?) and a dollar or two. Want to know more? Check out this great site that tells all about it! http://theartofsimple.net/st-nicholas-the-real-santa-claus/
Gideon and I had fun delivering hot chocolate and marshmallows to our neighbors too! I love the little tags I found on pinterest that said "Baby, it's cold outside! Warm up with some hot chocolate!"
The Enchanted Forrest was another first for us! Gideon loved every inch of it, while Charlotte was scared to death by the large, moving animals...especially the mice. She was terrified and kept saying, "No mice! No mice!" as tears rolled down her cheeks! Ha!
Thankful for new traditions and such sweet memories made this month!
