As in Budapest, the café culture is a big part of life in Rome. Popping in and out of a bar multiple times a day to grab a quick cappuccino or pastry is completely normal. In these small bars, lie ample opportunities to build relationships with bar owners and fellow caffeine lovers. Matt and I were able to chat with two such charming men. The first had been the owner of this particular bar since the 1960's, and the other had worked at the bar the entire time as well.
The owner of the bar was also a fifth generation bee keeper. He even took our friend, Reid, to see his bee yard. Here he is, proudly displaying his prized honey:
Just a few of the delicious pastries and snacks at his bar:
One of the best parts of the trip was getting to meet and here the stories of ordinary people like these men just doing life. What a great experience! We're definitely looking forward to the next trip and to see how God continues to move in the lives of Italians in Rome.
